Regional Center for Food Safety and Quality

About the center:

It was established on 18/11/1997 with the aim of providing scientific and technical expertise and advice (as consultant experience center) at the national and regional levels in the hygienic control of various foods of animal origin. It also organizes training courses with the aim of developing skills and updating information for Egyptian and Arab workers in this field, as well as helping community members and those interested in public health to maintain health, self-care, and protect the environment from pollution.
The Regional Center for Food Safety and Quality "Robert von Ostertag Laboratories" is a special unit that is the result of continuous cooperation between the college and the Federal Institute of Health in Federal Germany. The idea of this cooperation was established between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Federal Germany.


Vision and Mission

Emphasizing the pioneering and original role of Egyptian universities and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University, which is one of the oldest faculties of veterinary medicine in the Arab region and the Middle East in community service and environmental development, through continuous education and standing on the latest technical methods in the field of scientific research and trying to apply those techniques to bridge the gap between Theory and practice through the Regional Center for Food Safety and Quality.


Deepening the service, research and educational role of the center by holding workshops and specialized training courses, which aim to train cadres of specialists in food production and industry. In addition to providing scientific and research consultations for various sectors entrusted with food safety and quality.


The center, using the latest scientific technologies, examines and analyzes foods of animal origin from different fresh and frozen meats and their manufactures, as well as milk and its products, oils, fats and eggs, as a physical, chemical and microbiological examination to determine their suitability for human consumption and their conformity to standard specifications.


The general objectives and services provided by the center:

  1. Providing scientific and applied services and Consulting in its field of specialization.
  2. Organizing and holding training courses and holding specialized scientific seminars.
  3. Economic feasibility studies for small and large projects.
  4. Laboratory diagnosis and chemical and microbiological analysis in all fields of veterinary medicine and food health.
  5. Working to implement the latest global consumer safety systems.
  6. Working to increase the production efficiency of meat, dairy and eggs.
